The Indo-West Pacific crab Liomera rugipes (Brachyura: Xanthidae: Liomerinae) on the Turkish Coasts
Abstract
Two male specimens of the non-native species Liomera rugipes (Heller, 1861) were collected. One male specimen was found in a fishing net off the coast of Dörtyol at a depth of 22–23 m on 4 April 2025, and another was found in dried form on 14 June 2025 from a fisherman off the coast of Karataş (Iskenderun Bay, Türkiye). This constitutes the first record of this species of crab along the Turkish coast, and the fourth record for the Mediterranean. This record indicates an expansion of the species’ range in the Mediterranean, with the total number of exotic decapods along the Turkish coast reaching 45 species.
